Taylor Swift seems to be more cautious than ever after she was seen covering her lips while chatting with her friends and collaborators Lana Del Rey and Jack Antonoff on Sunday at the 2024 Grammy Awards.
The 34-year-old pop superstar held up a black folding fan over her face while carrying on a discreet conversation with the Bleachers musician at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.
The humorous display occurred shortly before Taylor won her 13th Grammy award for best pop vocal album for Midnights, which led her to reveal during her acceptance speech that she’s set to release the new album The Tortured Poet’s Department in April.
The move appeared to be inspired by a scandal from January’s Golden Globe Awards ceremony, when Taylor was glimpsed chatting with her longtime pal Selena Gomez.
A forensic lip reader later told DailyMail.com that the two singers were gossiping about Selena’s fears about potentially ‘upsetting’ Kylie Jenner by asking her boyfriend — and Selena’s former costar — Timothée Chalamet for a joint selfie.
Taylor — who was among the evening’s best-dressed stars — wasn’t taking any chances this time around, and her fans were quick to spot the reference and shared some hilarious reactions to the secretive move on social media.
During the Grammys broadcast, Taylor — who has lately been the subject of deranged right-wing conspiracy theories — was seen unfolding an elegant black fan.
It’s unclear if she brought it along to poke fun at the previous lip-reading intrigue, or if it was merely an accessory for her stunning white Schiaparelli corset dress, which she contrasted with black gloves reaching to her upper arms.
The Anti-Hero singer was complemented by her friend — and occasional duet partner Lana Del Rey — who also carried a black fan.
The two singer–songwriters were seen holding up the fans in front of their faces as they chatted during some downtime between awards presentations.
Lana was dressed in a sheer black dress and also had on short sheer black gloves, which complemented the lacy black fans.
Taylor was also seated near her regular producer and co-songwriter Jack Antonoff, who went tie-free with a black tux and eyeglasses with large frames.
He leaned in to hear the Folklore singer better, and Taylor held the fan out over her mouth to obscure whatever she was saying.
Although she wasn’t leaving anything to chance, it didn’t appear to have dampened Taylor’s mood at all, as she could be seen beaming ear to ear in the audience.
