Ziggy Marley thinks his dad, the famous reggae singer Bob Marley, would have liked the new movie about his life called “Bob Marley: One Love.”

“He would laugh, but a proud laugh,” Ziggy says. “He always wanted to make a movie. He was creative. He even wanted to make a Western. There’s a lot about him that people don’t know. This movie will show those sides, and people will connect with them.”

Ziggy, who was 12 when Bob died in 1981, is happy to share his dad’s story in the movie, out on Feb. 14. He’s working on it with actor Kingsley Ben-Adir, who plays Bob, and Lashana Lynch, who plays his mom, Rita.

Ziggy, Rita, and his sister Cedella are helping produce the film, directed by Reinaldo Marcus Green, and his wife Orly is an executive producer.

Ziggy thinks Kingsley’s performance shows a side of Bob that people don’t usually see, an emotional side. He believes that emotional connection is what makes the movie important.

“Kingsley did really good,” says Ziggy. “There are moments where we’re like, ‘Yeah, that’s just like Daddy.’ I want people to feel emotions, and the big idea is for people to come together in peace and love. The movie is about unity.”

Ziggy and his family, including his mom Rita and siblings, were the ones who wanted to make the movie. They were very involved in creating it.

“It’s coming from us. For it to be real and authentic, we have to be a part of it,” he says. “The movie’s message is powerful, especially now. It’s the right time.”

Now a father of seven, Ziggy says his family’s spiritual foundation keeps them close to Bob.

“Everything we do is a part of the whole. It’s like we’re a part of him, and he’s a part of us. It’s one,” he says. “We speak with our love, not words. We don’t have to talk much — we can just feel. My smile is honoring him. I laugh, and it looks like his laugh. Pieces of him are a part of me.”

In his memoir, “Never Have Your Dog Stuffed — and Other Things I’ve Learned,” Alan revealed that his father often spent many nights away from home working and his mom struggled with her mental health.During the 40s and 50s mental illness was a taboo subject with very few resources to help so many families were left to deal with it alone.“How much easier it could have been for my father and me to face her illness together; to compare notes, to figure out strategies. Instead, each of us was on [our] own,” he wrote in his 2005 memoir.He recalled a traumatic childhood memory of when he was just six years old and had stayed up with his mother while his father was working late.When Robert got home, his wife accused him of sleeping with another woman. In mid-1958, at age 15, Hendrix acquired his first acoustic guitar, for $5 (equivalent to $51 in 2022). He played for hours daily, watching others and learning from more experienced guitarists, and listening to blues artists such as Muddy Waters, B.B. King, Howlin’ Wolf, and Robert Johnson.

James Marshall “Jimi” Hendrix (born Johnny Allen Hendrix; November 27, 1942 – September 18, 1970) was an American guitarist, songwriter and singer. Although his mainstream career spanned only four years, he is widely regarded as the greatest and one of the most influential electric guitarists in the history of popular music, and one of the most celebrated musicians of the 20th century. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame describes him as “arguably the greatest instrumentalist in the history of rock music.”[1]

Born in Seattle, Washington, Hendrix began playing guitar at age 15. In 1961, he enlisted in the US Army, but was discharged the following year. Soon afterward, he moved to Clarksville, then Nashville, Tennessee, and began playing gigs on the chitlin’ circuit, earning a place in the Isley Brothers’ backing band and later with Little Richard, with whom he continued to work through mid-1965. He then played with Curtis Knight and the Squires before moving to England in late 1966 after bassist Chas Chandler of the Animals became his manager. Within months, Hendrix had earned three UK top ten hits with the Jimi Hendrix Experience: “Hey Joe”, “Purple Haze”, and “The Wind Cries Mary”. He achieved fame in the US after his performance at the Monterey Pop Festival in 1967, and in 1968 his third and final studio album, Electric Ladyland, reached number one in the US. The double LP was Hendrix’s most commercially successful release and his first and only number one album. The world’s highest-paid performer,[2] he headlined the Woodstock Festival in 1969 and the Isle of Wight Festival in 1970 before his accidental death in London from barbiturate-related asphyxia in September 1970.

Hendrix was inspired by American rock and roll and electric blues. He favored overdriven amplifiers with high volume and gain, and was instrumental in popularizing the previously undesirable sounds caused by guitar amplifier feedback. He was also one of the first guitarists to make extensive use of tone-altering effects units in mainstream rock, such as fuzz distortion, Octavia, wah-wah, and Uni-Vibe. He was the first musician to use stereophonic phasing effects in recordings. Holly George-Warren of Rolling Stone commented: “Hendrix pioneered the use of the instrument as an electronic sound source. Players before him had experimented with feedback and distortion, but Hendrix turned those effects and others into a controlled, fluid vocabulary every bit as personal as the blues with which he began.”[3]

Hendrix was the recipient of several music awards during his lifetime and posthumously. In 1967, readers of Melody Maker voted him the Pop Musician of the Year and in 1968, Billboard named him the Artist of the Year and Rolling Stone declared him the Performer of the Year. Disc and Music Echo honored him with the World Top Musician of 1969 and in 1970, Guitar Player named him the Rock Guitarist of the Year. The Jimi Hendrix Experience was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1992 and the UK Music Hall of Fame in 2005. Rolling Stone ranked the band’s three studio albums, Are You Experienced (1967), Axis: Bold as Love (1967), and Electric Ladyland (1968), among the “500 Greatest Albums of All Time”, and they ranked Hendrix as the greatest guitarist and the sixth-greatest artist of all time. Hendrix was named the greatest guitarist of all time by Rolling Stone in 2023.[4]

Gary Sinise, known for his iconic role as Lieutenant Dan in the film Forrest Gump, has dedicated his life to helping veterans. Through his Gary Sinise Foundation, he has made a tremendous impact on the lives of veterans, defenders, first responders, and their families.

In recognition of his selfless work, Sinise has received numerous awards. However, the highest honor came in 2020 when he was presented with the Congressional Medal of Honor Society Patriot Award. This prestigious accolade was given to him by actor Joe Mantegna, who affectionately referred to Sinise as “Lt. Dan.”

During the award ceremony, Mantegna shared heartfelt words about the remarkable character of Gary Sinise, saying, “Not all heroes are made on the battlefield.” He emphasized that Sinise’s dedication to his country is matched only by his devotion as a husband, father, and friend.
