As youngsters, Barbra Streisand would sit her little sister Roslyn Kind on the toilet seat and brush her hair, oftentimes harmonizing together songs like ‘Row, Row, Row Your Boat.‘
Many decades later, the lesser-known Kind can be seen on international stages, still harmonizing with her legendary sister, with whom she shares an unbreakable bond.
Expressing her love and support, Streisand recently shared a rare childhood image of the adorable siblings as young girls, wishing Kind a happy 73rd birthday. Keep reading to learn more Streisand’s kid sister!
Roslyn Kind, 73, learned over the decades to not compare herself with her older half-sister Barbra Streisand.
Growing up nine years apart, Kind and Streisand – who turned 82 on April 24 – share a close and supportive relationship, a bond that strengthened over the years.
“My sister used to put me on the toilet seat and comb my hair and she used to take pictures of my profile. We used to [harmonize] together.” says Kind, who in her interview, then sings ‘Row, Row, Row Your Boat‘ to demonstrate. “I don’t know if Barbra remembers our doing that. But she was out of the house at a young age. She left home after she graduated early.”
‘It’s very hard’
Kind explains she started her career as “a chubby little kid from Brooklyn,” recording the song for her first album on graduation day as a teenager.
But separating herself from Streisand, who first appeared on Broadway when she was only 14, was challenging for Kind, who wanted to establish her own identity.
Speaking with WGN Radio on April 28, 2024, she detailed what it’s like to be the little sister of the multi-talented star, saying, “It’s something I obviously have to deal with, it’s a fact of my life.”
Sharing the same Brooklyn accent as Streisand, Kind continues, “I’m the baby sister of Barbra Streisand, but she’s also my sister and I’ve come a long way in my own place in life…My sisters an iconic figure. And I’ll never be who she is.”
In a separate interview, Kind admits that “it’s very hard,” because “even though you don’t go in that direction, people compare you anyway.”
“My sister’s monumental. She’s a legend. She is an icon. I’m not even looking at that,” she adds.
Kind spent the past several decades carving out her own career where she’s revered for performances on Broadway, at Carnegie Hall, and starring roles in cabarets across the world.
And though it took many years, Kind oftentimes performs with Streisand, and her son Jason Gould, on international tours.
“When you develop into people, you appreciate who each other is and you know that there’s love, and you can depend on that person and that they’re there for you. That’s how we are,” Kind gushes over her big sister, the star of A Star is Born (1976).
Rare childhood image
Proud siblings, Kind and Streisand openly express their deep affections for the other with sweet social media tributes.
On Streisand’s birthday in 2022, Kind shared an older photo of the two sisters with their mom. She writes, “On this beautiful April 24th day…Wishing my big Sis a most Perfect and Glorious Birthday!! Love you so much…”
On January 9, 2024, the Yentl star celebrated her younger sibling’s day with two black and white throwback photos, where in one she is seen holding her little sister, captioning it with “Happy Birthday Sis”.
It must be tough to have such a super famous sister but we love how these two share such a loving and supportive relationship!
